The location of the hotel was not great. It was about a 15 minute walk to the nearest subway station. The other main problem was that the hotel was full of conference delegates all of whom were allowed to smoke incessantly in all the public areas. So, the whole of reception was filled with a fug of smoke, making it most inpleasant. Other than that, the hotel was fine.

Great hotel (& breakfast!), slighlty hidden but once we figured out bus routes etc it was much easier to get around. ( Buses stop oustide hotel)
Top Tip
If you fancy a treat try Grill Royal (Wine Bar off Friedrich Strasse).
Topography of terror & Stassi musuem were good for history.
For shopping must go to KaDeWe

Top Tip
book a walking tour of the city, then you will see all sorts of things that it would be difficult to pick up on your own.

Re: 'Harry's New York Bar' situated in hotel:
Bar staff were not exactly welcoming or friendly - in fact, haughty and disdainful would more appropriately describe their attitude. A mix-up with our bill at the end of the night due to the fact that we had moved inside the bar from an outside table, has left us still unsure as to whether or not we were overcharged. Also, when I attempted to pay the bill with my Mastercard, which was my preferred method of payment, the waitress conveyed that payment by credit card was either inconvenient or impossible because the bar was closing, and insisted that she would prefer we paid in cash. This meant that when we got back to our rooms, and discovered what appeared to be a possible discrepancy in the bill, we had insufficient proof of payment to contest it.
The live entertainment in the bar, provided by (I quote) "a jazzman tickling the ivories", was indeed highly entertaining - but only because he was hilariously awful! At least we had a good laugh, particularly when, on discovering we were from Ireland, he kindly elected to honour us with a “traditional Irish tune”...
‘Celebration’ - by that well known Irish(!) crooner... Stevie Wonder...!!
The breakfast and service in the hotel itself, could not be faulted.
Top Tip
If intending to spend time in 'Harry's New York' bar: don't expect much in the way of genuine courtesy from bar-staff, check bills carefully BEFORE paying - and remember that you will probably need either earplugs or a good sense of humour to cope with the live 'entertainment'! But to be fair, the cocktails ARE delicious!
The Berlin Zoo, which is within comfortable walking distance of the hotel, is NOT to be missed; we had a fantastic day there, and are looking forward to visiting again soon!
